Reserve and multicolour effects are produced on textile fabric or yarn, of natural or synthetic polyamide, by first impregnating with a liquor contg. anionic dye (I). Then, immediatelyone or more liquors or pastes, contg. a poly(5-10) ethoxylated fatty diamine (II) and opt. one or more anionic dyes or brighteners, or disperse dyes, are applied to particular regions. The material is then subjected to heat treatment to fix the dyes or brighteners. Opt. the order of the first 2 stages can be reversed. - (II) are of formula (A), pref used in quaternised form. R = 10-24C, pref. 12-24C, alk(en)yl; L = ethylene (pref.) or propylene; X = CO or pref. direct bond; x, y and z = 1-10, totalling 5-10; n = 2 or pref. 3. II Pref. (I) are Cr/Co complexes of the azo or azamethline series, and have K' value at least 5. The dyes used in the third stages have K' value at least one unit lower.
