A folding device for folding paper sheets comprises a support device (10) with a positioning element (24) for positioning a paper sheet or an assembly of paper sheets along one edge thereof, a pair of folding rolls (30, 32) which are arranged close to the paper sheet or to the paper sheet assembly, on one side thereof, at a point at which the fold is to be formed, a feed device (34) which is arranged on the side, facing away from the folding rolls (30, 32), of the paper sheet or of the paper sheet assembly such that it is adjustable relative to the folding rolls (30, 32), and a device for driving the feed device (34) into a position close to a line along which the two folding rolls (30, 32) contact one another. The feed device (34) is, in this arrangement, actuatable in a manner such that it bends the paper sheet or the paper sheet assembly forcably towards the contact line of the folding rolls (30, 32), so that a curved section of the paper sheet or paper sheet assembly is grasped and folded by the folding rolls (30, 32). <IMAGE>
