The treatment zone (5), in which the thermal treatment process proceeds, contains a dumped packing (10) or is filled with arranged column packings. Heat exchange elements (11) are embedded in the packing (10), which heat exchange elements are configured for example as jacketed heating tubes (13) distributed over the column cross-section and extending in the direction of the longitudinal axis (12-12) of the column. <IMAGE>
