The electrical DC voltage converter system which is already known from previous applications is described in more recent designs, normal capacitors and split capacitors being connected with a changeover switch such that, in the charging phase, they are charged at low voltage in their parallel circuit, all being connected to the low charging DC voltage in parallel, and after changing over into a series circuit, are discharged into a suitable load circuit at high voltage. The new split capacitors are indispensable for this purpose. The additional inventions in this case relate to the capacitor technology which is integrated on to a carrier insulator strip (which can be wound up) on its front and rear side by bonding or coating on of metallic capacitor coatings, as well as to the series connection of capacitor windings, which are connected coaxially in series, and their arrangement in an insulating material housing in order to obtain linear accelerator DC voltages up to many hundred gigavolts when attempting to achieve maximum voltages, for example for novel particle accelerators. These converters are preferably intended for use with new accelerators since they will be cheaper and more powerful than synchrotrons and occupy less space than the latter.
