PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of spills on a stainless alloy steel slab due to microcracking during hot rolling by heating the slab having a specified composition under specified conditions before hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a stainless alloy steel slab is composed of, by weight, 0.001-0.2% C, 0.1-5% Si, 0.1-11% Mn, <0.05% P, <0.02% S, 11-30% Cr, 2-30% Ni, 0.001-0.06% N, <0.015% O, <4% Al, one or more among <5% Mo, <3% Cu, <1% Nb, <0.05% Ti, <0.1% Zr, <0.06% Ca, <0.1% Sn and <0.05% B and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. When the slab is heated before hot rolling, the concn, of O2 in the atmosphere in a slab heating furnace is regulated to 0.5-5vol%, and the slab heating temp. and the slab heating time are controlled so as to satisfy the formula [where T is the surface temp. ( deg.C) of the slab and H is the holding time (hr) at the temp.]. |
