The invention relates to a light pipe for producing or photometrically measuring exceptionally small points of light. It consists of a high-index rod made from optical glass with a low-index glass sheath, and in accordance with the invention has a tapering end with a microtip to which a metal coating is applied. The invention also relates to a method for producing the light pipe. This consists in that a segment of a light-guiding rod consisting of a high-index rod made from optical glass is drawn while being heated to a diameter in the micrometer range and is, as far as possible, broken through at the most strongly tapered point. This produces a light-conducting rod having a tapering segment with a microtip, whereupon the tapering segment is subsequently coated with a metal, and the microtip is ground and polished.
