Process for the impregnation of soft flat sealing materials

For the impregnation of porous soft sealing materials, in particular for the production of cylinder head gaskets, thermosetting and reactive synthetic resins or elastomers, such as silicone resins, phenolic resins, epoxy resins and melamine resins, or alternatively fluorinated elastomers and silicone elastomers are melted and rolled into the soft material by means of a hot-roller system. In this way, the soft material can be impregnated with a precisely adjustable degree of pore filling, and subsequent crosslinking of the impregnant in the soft material gives a firm bond between the fibres and the impregnant and thus a sealing material of high strength, high deformation resistance, low cross-sectional permeability and good resistance to the seal media.
