To achieve isolation of the conductors to be contacted in an automatic contact terminal which exhibits a terminal body for the metallic connection to a conductor, a servo-actuated, sensor-triggered clamping device for connecting the conductor to the terminal body and an insertion bush for introducing the conductor into the contact terminal, the insertion bush, together with the terminal body held via an insulating tube, forms a capacitor, the capacitance of which is changed by inserting the conductor into the insertion bush, the capacitor is part of a resonant sensor circuit and a change in capacitance, when the contacting position of the conductor has been reached, is of such a magnitude that an electronic monitoring device monitoring the resonant sensor circuit triggers the servo-actuated clamping device.
