<p>A fuel injection nozzle (5) for use in a direct injection type diesel engine has a spray tip (12) with a spring (50) biased poppet valve (40) journalled for reciprocable movement therein, the lower reduced diameter free end of the spray tip and the head (41) of the poppet valve having opposed frusto-conical valve seat surfaces (27, 43) with a differential angle of about 2 DEG so that seating engagement occurs at the outer peripheral edges thereof. The poppet valve has an internal fuel passage (45) extending through the valve stem (42) thereof for flow communication with a plurality of fuel discharge passages (46) which are circumferentially spaced apart, radially extending, inclined and located so as to discharge fuel parallel to and directly across the valve seat surface (43) of the poppet valve.</p> |
