A heat-developable photographic material having improved preservability, which comprises a support having thereon at least one heat-developable photgraphic layer, said photographic material containing a dye represented by formula (I) <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 and R3 each represents an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group or alkenyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group, aryl group, alkenyl group, or aromatic heterocyclic group; R4 through R7 each represents a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group, aryl group, or alkenyl group; or R4 and R6 together form an unsubstituted or substituted alkylene group or alkenylene group; X1 represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or the group <IMAGE> wherein R8 represents a hydrogen atom, an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group, aryl group, or alkenyl group; Y1 represents an atomic group forming an unsubstituted or substituted pyridine or quinoline ring together with nitrogen and carbon atoms represented in formula (I); Y2 represents an atomic group forming an unsubstituted or substituted heterocyclic ring, together with carbon and nitrogen atoms represented in formula (I); X2 represents an anion; and n1 represents 0 or 1.
