The cam 19 acts on dual web shoes 14 via rollers 20 retained in recesses in the webs 31 by roller retainers 40 each comprising a member preferably formed from spring wire to provide two substantially parallel legs 42, 44 with a tang 46, 48 at the end of each leg and a manual grip 41 intermediate the legs. The tangs 46, 48 are seated in apertures 36 provided in webs 31 and portions 50, 52 of the member intermediate the manual grip and the tangs extend only partially around the roller so the manual grip and the tangs are disposed on the same side of a reference plane n parallel to the legs 42, 44 and passing through the axis of the roller. This enables the retainer to be rotated about the apertures thereby allowing the roller to be safely removed from the brake shoe while the shoe remains in the assembly without the use of any tools. Roller retainer may also be formed from synthetic material, stamped from steel plate, or fabricated from combination of separate elements. <IMAGE> |
