The device allows the unloading of pellets, particularly nuclear fuel pellets, placed in trays and the insertion of them in the form of stacks of specified length in storage tubes of corresponding diameter. It comprises a carriage for sliding the pellets 14 from each tray 12 in turn onto a vibrating bowl 36 for guidance towards a chute 38 for depositing the pellets in succession on a conveyor which loads the pellets into an intermediate tube 60 in the form of a stack having the said length. An elevator moves the intermediate tube in a direction transverse to its length between a loading position of the tube and a transfer position. Means allow the displacement of a bundle of storage tubes in such a way as to bring each tube in turn opposite the transfer position. The stack of pellets contained in the intermediate tube placed in the transfer position is then driven into the storage tube placed opposite.
