<p>A magnetic head for recording and/or reading information, which comprises a pair of semipoles 10, 11, each one of these being composed of a plurality of soft iron sheets 12 which have predetermined profiles. The semipoles are joined together in order to define a gap 13 opposite a magnetic support 16. A coil 15 is arranged on the core. Hard, thin coverings 18 are deposited on the surfaces of the sheets 12, at least in the region of the gap and in the region of frontal contact 17 with the magnetic support, by means of which a stratified (laminated) sandwich structure is obtained in which the hardness is changed periodically along the width of the magnetic support. The covering is deposited by means of a high-velocity reactive cathode sputtering technique which imparts optimum hardness and cohesion to the iron substrate.</p> |
