<p>Steroids of formula (XII), esp. 17 alpha-hydroxy progesterones and cortico-steroids, with wide pharmaceutical uses and capable of admin. by oral, local or parenteral routes, are made by (a) sulphenylation of a steroidal propargylic alcohol to an alenic sulphoxide; (b) Michael addn.; (c) reaction of the prod. with a thiophile, e.g. trimethyl phosphite and diethylamine; and (d) addn. of halogen.</p> |
