When a vehicle turns over, this device generates an electrical signal which triggers passive safety devices present in the vehicle. In the embodiment according to the invention, the signal is generated by a gyroscope-supported sensor with previously determined critical angles of rotation which can be selected to be of different magnitude depending on the direction of rotation.
