A process for producing a dry screed with sand as a main constituent, a binder and, if appropriate, further additives is described, according to which sand is mixed with a liquid plastic curing at room temperature under the action of moisture. This mixture is then applied to a substrate in the required thickness and curing is subsequently carried out by the action of atmospheric moisture and/or moisture in the mixed material. This material is distinguished by advantageous physical and chemical properties, in particular by favourable values of the compressive strength and flexural strength. It can be used in diverse fields of application, in particular for the formation of floating screed, for producing smooth industrial floors and also as a constituent in buildings and the like.
