In a troughed chain conveyor, at least one endless chain runs round a drive wheel and a deflection wheel and the links of the chain, which are identical to one another, are provided with a carrier which is aligned transversely to the longitudinal direction of the chain. In order to be able to monitor chain wear and to be able to detect and eliminate impermissible chain wear in good time, it is proposed that a) at least two sensors (10, 11) which are arranged so as to be fixed relative to the frame, are arranged at intervals one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the chain and scan the carriers (9, 9') be provided, b) the distance between the sensors (10, 11) corresponds an integral multiple of the chain pitch plus the maximum permissible chain link wear in the longitudinal direction of the chain per chain link times the number of chain pitches preselected in each case and c) the sensors (10, 11) influence at least one signal transmitter when a carrier (9, 9') is situated opposite each of the two sensors (10, 11). <IMAGE>
