The working chair has a seat support (1), a seating surface (2), the inclination of which can be adjusted with respect to the said support (1) and a backrest support (4), the inclination of which is automatically adjusted with respect to the seating surface (2) on the basis of the inclination of the latter. A lockable spring assembly (7) of any design is provided to fasten the inclinations of the seating surface (2) and of the backrest support (4). The seating surface (2) is pivotably connected by its front end at (3) to the seat support (1) and is also pivotably connected in its rear region to the backrest support (4). The lockable spring assembly (7) is articulatedly connected at one end (8) to the front end of the seat support (1) and is articulatedly connected at its other end to the backrest support (4) via a transverse bolt (9) on one hand and on the other hand is guided in a slot (10), which extends at an acute angle to the central line of the lockable spring assembly (7), of the seat support (1). Guidance may be carried out by a double-jointed lever instead of a slot. In both cases, the guidance is such that the backrest support (4) is moved downwards through approximately the same distance as the seating surface (2) when the rear region of the latter is lowered. <IMAGE>
