In a director mirror for a periscope which can be swivelled to line up with a target, a damping device 20 is present which essentially consists of two plates 22 and 23 which can be pressed together with the aid of screw connections, and between which a friction member 21 is arranged. The friction member 21 is connected to the mirror 2 by an articulated rod 13 and an articulated head 14, and is pushed to and fro between the plates 22 and 23 in the event of aligning movements. This effectively damps all resonant vibrations transmitted to the mirror 2.
