The invention relates to an apparatus for dividing a wire-winding strand and for the simultaneous automatic removal of samples from wire windings in a coil-forming chamber. The invention can be employed in single- and multi-wire trains. The aim of the invention is to achieve an increase in the throughput, shortening of the collecting times, reduction of the stress on the catching arms in the collecting shaft and also a constant overview of the quality of the rolled material. The object is to provide an apparatus which can carry out both the division and the removal of samples from winding strands, without interrupting the continuous rolling process. The object is achieved in that, both at the front and rear of the movable cutter holder, in each case two cutters are arranged one above the other and to the side of the cutter holder and also two hydraulic cylinders are arranged symmetrically with the centre of the cutting planes. Furthermore, fixed counter-cutters are arranged on both sides, centrally and one above the other, at the mutually opposite edges of the collecting shaft extended through the shearing frame, it being possible for the two lower fixed counter-cutters to be swung in and out.
