The coupling sleeve (12), which is provided especially for glass-fibre-composite pipes (10, 10a), is provided with a spacer ring (22) which is fitted on its inner outline surface and prevents the ends (27) of two adjacent pipes coming into contact with one another during installation in a drilled hole. If axial compression forces occur, this spacer ring is either sheared or destroyed, so that a space (26) is made available between the two pipe ends, into which these pipe ends can deviate under the influence of the axial compression forces. <IMAGE>
