In an opto-electrical keyboard for display and control panels, e.g. for railway signalling, a first optical conductor (OL1) to conduct light from a light source (LE), and a second optical conductor (OL2) to receive light which is reflected when the operating element (B) is not activated, are associated with each operating element (B). The operating elements (B) preferably consist of the same flexible material as a larger panel (T) for a multiplicity of operating elements (B). In the area of the operating elements (B), the panel (T) is formed as a reflecting optical component (RB), which can be deformed when manually activated and thus changes its reflecting properties such that the light conducted to it can no longer be received by the second optical conductor (OL2). <IMAGE>
