Mercury vapor and/or vapor of chlorodibenzodioxins and/or vapor of chlorodibenzofurans are removed from a stream of hot flue gas together with acidic components of the flue gas in a spray absorption process. The absorbent used in said process is an aqueous liquid which besides alkaline components contains suspended activated carbon.
