PURPOSE:To monitor the light output of a laser without influence of the reflectivity of other surface by reflecting part of a laser emitted to a photoelectric converter by the back surface to produce externally, and supplying the remaining portion to the photoelectric converter for detecting a laser output. CONSTITUTION:When a laser 9 is emitted from one surface 1a of a semiconductor laser chip 1 to the surface 2a of a photodiode 2, part is reflected on the surface 2a to be produced out of a package, for the original use, and the remainder is input into the photodiode 2 to be monitored by the light output of the laser 9. When the reflectivity of the reflecting coating of the surface 2a of the photodiode 2 is varied, the monitoring current of the photodiode 2 can be altered in response thereto. Thus, the light output of the laser can be monitored, and the assembling work of the chip with a stem can be facilitated, and the package can be further reduced in size. |
