PURPOSE:To perform forward backward printing with a simple construction and thereby enable high-speed printing, by providing thermal transfer ribbons in parallel to each other and using them individually for forward printing and backward printing, respectively. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer serial printer set 3, thermal transfer ribbon cassettes 32, 33 comprising the thermal transfer ribbons 36, 37 wound respectively around hubs 34, 35 are provided i parallel to each other. Thermal printing head bodies 4, 5 are so disposed that printing surfaces 41, 51 theref face the ribbons 36, 37. In forward printing conducted by using the ribbon 36 and the head body 4, the hub 34 engaged with vanes 39 can be driven, while the hub 35 is held stationary. In backward printing conducted by using the ribbon 37 and the head body 5, the hub engaged with vanes 40 can be driven, while the hub 34 is held stationary. Accordingly, the period of time required for carriage return can be saved, and therefore, high-speed printing can be performed. |
