Suntanning equipment is described comprising a first and second portions (1,7) each with ultra-violet tubes (6,9) and defining between them a space to receive a user. Air for cooling the tubes (6,9) is supplied by blower means (14) to a heat exchanger (15) where the air is cooled by heat-exchange with coolant recycled from a remote location. The air is then used to cool the tubes and the temperature of the air is sensed and the supply of coolant to the heat-exchanger is controlled in dependence upon the sensed temperature. By this control and by dumping the heat generated by the equipment at a location remote from the equipment, it is possible to control the operating temperature of the equipment to a desired value within +/- 0.5 DEG C., with consequent and unforeseen therapeutic and commercial advantages. |
