A carbon graphite component having a controlled pore structure for a fuel cell is disclosed. The component is manufactured by carbonising and graphitising a precursor sheet of cellulose fibres and a carbonisable, thermosetting resin (e.g. a phenolic resin). The cellulose precursor sheet has a controlled pore structure to aid to controlling the pore structure of the finished component and may also comprise purified carbon particles. Exemplified components are electrodes and electrolyte reservoir layers.
