PURPOSE:To obtain a photosensitive silver halide material having a low silver content, low fog and high sensitivity by using two kinds of silver halide particles having different particle sizes and by incorporating a compound which releases a fogging agent or a development accelerator during development into a photographic layer. CONSTITUTION:Photographic layers including silver halide emulsion layers are formed on a base. At this time, at least one of silver halide emulsion layers contains silver halide particles in which particles accounting for at least 20% of the total projection area have <=0.5mum average diameter and silver halide particles in which particles accounting for at least 20% of the total projection area have >=0.7mum average diameter. One of the photographic layers contains a compound which releases a fogging agent, a precursor thereof, a development accelerator or a precursor thereof during development by an amount corresponding to the amount of developed silver.
