PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled alloy having superior characteristics at high temp. and suitable for use as the material of a heavy cutting tool having a long life at a low cost by coating a sintered hard alloy having a specified composition contg. a WC-TiC-TiN mixture, W and an Fe group metal with TiC or the like to a proper thickness. CONSTITUTION:A sintered hard alloy contg. a mixture or a mutual compound consisting of 10-95wt% WC, 2-80wt% TiC and 2-80wt% TiN, 0.1-10wt% metallic phase of W, <=5wt% one or more among, Fe, Co and Ni as Fe group metals and 0.1-15wt% N is used as a base material, and a part or the whole of the surface of the sintered hard alloy is coated with one or more among TiC, TiN and TiCN to 1-2mum thickness to inhibit plastic deformation or a chemical reaction at high temp. A coated hard alloy prolonging the life of a tool for heavy cutting such as high-speed cutting or high-feed cutting is manufactured at a reduced cost. |
