PURPOSE:To improve the durability of the title medium itself and a magnetic head by forming the first protective layer consisting of an Si-N-O thin film on a recording magnetic layer having vertical magnetic anisotropy and further forming the second protective layer consisting of an SiO2 film thereon. CONSTITUTION:A Co-Cr alloy thin film, for example,is formed on both surfaces of a substrate 1 as a recording magnetic layer 2 and the magnetic recording layer 2 is oriented so that an axis easy for magnetization in the vertical direction is provided to the film surface. An Si-O-N thin film is formed on the recording magnetic layer 2 as the first protective layer 3 and an SiO2 layer is further formed thereon as the second protective layer 4. a fluorocarbon lubricating layer is formed, as required, on the second protective layer 4 as a lubricating layer 5. Consequently, the durability of the medium and a magnetic head is improved. |
