A method of making a jacketed storage tank (10) comprises applying a gas pervious separating agent (19) over the storage tank (10), applying a layer of fibrous reinforcing material on the separating agent (19), and thereafter applying a resinous jacket (17). The resultant jacket (17), covering at least about 40% of the surface area of the storage tank (10), is structurally independent therefrom. True secondary containment can be provided by the jacket (17). A fail safe containment storage tank system is provided by the use of a leak detection means (27) to monitor the closed space between the storage tank (10) and jacket (17) for tank or jacket leakage. |
