NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance planothiocin B having the following physical and chemical properties. Melting point, 259-262 deg.C (decomposition); elemental analysis (%), C 49.37, H 3.45, N 13.30, S 14.19; molecular weight, 1,350; [alpha]D<23>=+95.4 (C=0.5 pyridine); color reactions, positive to KMnO4 discoloration reaction and iodine color development reaction and negative to FeCl3 reaction, ninhydrin reaction and Molish reaction; Solubility, soluble in CHCl3-methanol mixture, pyridine, DMSO and glacial acetic acid, insoluble in benzene, acetone, petroleum ether and hexane; nature, weakly acidic substance; apperance, white crystal; etc. USE:Antibacterial agent. PREPARATION:A microbial strain belonging to Actinoplanes genus such as Actinoplanes sp A12526 (FERM P-5063) is cultured in a medium containing C source, N source and inorganic substance preferably at 25-30 deg.C for 2-4 days. |
