The rotary engine comprises a coolable housing with piston rotation inner chamber of epitrochoidal cross-section for the polygonal piston, which is sealed off from the walls of the inner chamber by sealing strips and is guided in the inner chamber by an eccentric guide comprising an externally toothed inner pinion and an inner toothing of the piston of greater diameter. In order to provide an engine of this type with an essentially longer power arm relative to the torque and to be able to operate it with comparable output at correspondingly lower speed, the rotary piston is designed in such a way that a driver (4) with output shaft (5), rotatable centrally about the central housing axis (3) is arranged in a free space (1) of the piston (2). In addition circular guides (7) are arranged in the inside corner areas (6) of the piston (2), in which guides driver rollers (8) of smaller diameter engage, bearing on and being guided by the circular guides (7), which rollers are pivotably mounted on the driver (4). The externally toothed inner pinion (10) arranged in the piston rotation inner chamber (9) of the coolable engine housing and engaging in the piston (2) is supported either fixed or, provided with a further output shaft (5'), rotatably on the adjacent sidewall (11) of the inner chamber (9). <IMAGE>
