A device for transporting and guiding photographic substrates through a drying chamber, for transportation purposes there being provided on both sides of the substrate web and along the latter a plurality of rollers made from foam plastic, and a plurality of wires which are essentially parallel to one another being tensioned as guide means between the rollers on one side of the substrate web, is designed such that the foam plastic rollers (4 and 5) extend over the width of the substrate web (11), that the guide wires (10) are suspended at their ends in a manner fixed to the housing with interposition of at least one clamping device (12), and are tensioned about the shafts (6 and 7) of the rollers (4 and 5 respectively), and that the roller material is such that the roller surfaces upstream and downstream of the feed-through points of the guide wires (10) fit snugly together to form a smooth surface. The result is that a strip-free, uniform drying is achieved, even of sensitive substrates, with the aid of very simple means. <IMAGE>
