The invention relates to a post-like securing means for nets, tarpaulins, sheetings or similar coverings, in particular for the protection of fruit and vegetable crops, having a rod, which exhibits retaining means for the suspension of the covering and is formed from a sheet-metal strip deformed to give a U-profile portion, and a foot piece which is fastened, or can be fastened, at the lower end of said rod and can be rammed into the earth, the retaining means being designed as projecting retaining tongues made in the sheet-metal strip. Along with simple construction and easily configured individual parts, said securing means is to constitute a stable and variable securing means which is easy to handle. This is achieved in that the rod forms a carrying rail for a further rod which exhibits a telescoping portion, which is of a smaller U-shape in cross-section and is intended for longitudinally adjustable guidance in the U of the carrying rail, and, connected thereto, a bendable arched portion consisting of flat material, and in that, in order to grip the two parts of the rod such that they can be adjusted at unit spacings, the carrying rail has window-like cutouts and the telescoping portion has, as retaining tongues, retaining clamps which are bent out of its U-web and are intended for gripping on the edges of the cutouts of the carrying rail.
