The invention relates to a process and equipment for gasifying carbonaceous fuels by heating the fuel with exclusion of air to form low-temperature carbonisation gases in a low-temperature carbonisation zone (II), subsequent carbonisation in a coking zone (III), oxidation of the resulting coal (coke) and of the low-temperature carbonisation gases in an oxidation zone (IV) with oxygen supply and subsequent reduction by means of coal originating from the coking zone in a reduction zone (V). In order to avoid the formation of tar fractions and other harmful substances in the product gas and altogether to obtain gasification of the feed material as completely as possible and with low production of harmful substances, it is provided according to the invention that, by blowing oxygen-containing gas (air) into a substantially solid-free oxidation zone (IV), the low-temperature carbonisation gas is drawn into the solid-free oxidation zone (IV) with separation from solid constituents of the low-temperature carbonisation zone (II), and substantially completely burned. <IMAGE>
