Method for digital transmission of analogue signals

Using this digital transmission method, the signal to be transmitted is converted into more than two-valued code elements, and, in this process, the levels of the characteristic states of the more than two-valued code elements display different values. As the larger level differences in more than two-valued code elements are assigned to the larger value differences, there is an overall reduction in errors which arise at the receiver end when assigning the levels to the value intervals. Use of this method in the context of the transmission of digitized analogue signals, for example in video transmission systems or measurement value transmissions, can therefore provide significant improvements in image or analogue signal quality at the receiving end, or an increase in the transmission distance for the same image or signal quality, which is particularly advantageous in the area of optoelectronic transmission systems.
