A method is proposed for ceasing a screwing operation as a function of the yield point which does not require storage either of measured values of the tightening torque or of the gradient thereof. The invention provides for this purpose that the condition k.dM/d psi = M(@) is selected as cessation criterion for the screwing operation, k being a transformation factor adapted to the respective case of screwing. The method according to the invention renders screwing operations more trouble-free and the equipment or evaluation circuits more cost-effective. <IMAGE>
