Apparatus for driving or forcing impact-driven bodies into place as well as for extracting impact-driven bodies, in particular sheet piles, comprising a vibrator and a receiving device attached to the underside of the vibrator for the impact-driven body. At least the amplitude and the frequency can be controlled by means of a control device. The vibrator is constructed as a linear piston vibrator which has a reciprocating working piston in a working cylinder and is attached to a pressure-medium pump which belongs to a pressure-medium circuit. The working-cylinder space above the working piston as well as the working-cylinder space below the working piston are each provided with two pressure-medium line-connection points, of which in each case one is attached to the pump via a pressure-medium line and the control device equipped with control valves, and the other is attached to a return line via a pressure-medium line and the control device equipped with control valves. With every working stroke and return stroke, a virtually complete exchange of pressure medium is possible. The return line is led back to the pump via a cooling device for the pressure medium. <IMAGE>
