For the coating zone in the hottest sintering zone of cement rotary kilns or the like, a stable refractory lining consisting of a dolomite brick component and a refractory coating component is recommended for the first time, wherein the CaO content of the refractory lining in total is raised to the CaO content of the coating of 66%, a lowering of the dilatation of the brick component by 0.4% is achieved by the incorporation of 5-10% by volume of serrated closed cavities of 2-6 mm diameter in the brick component, so that the overall porosity rises to 22-30% by volume, an extension insert between the bricks transversely to the longitudinal kiln axis of then only 2 mm per 1000 mm ensuring that there is a low expansion resistance against the thermal expansion of the bricks of 0.05 kp/cm<2> or 0.1 kp/cm<2> at 100-1400 DEG C, so that the dilatation of the brick component moves partially into the interior of the bricks, owing to the cavities. Optimum adhesion of the coating is ensured by the CaO content of 66% and the increase in the adhesion surface of the brick component, and the security of the brick component against spalling during sudden temperature shocks is greatly enhanced by the lowering of the dilatation of the bricks by 0.4%.
