The method and device is for improving the separation grade of fine filter mats used for fine filtering of air for clean rooms or paint spraying booths, wherein a support mesh (9) is integrated between the fiber layers (8) of the fine filter mat which adhere to each other. The support mesh is arranged on the dust-side outer side of the filter mat and is connected to the adhering fiber layers of the fine filter mat which lie beneath by point-form series stitched connections which are arranged at corresponding intervals and support the filter mat.
