PURPOSE:To prevent any local corrosion of zinc in a mercury-free battery so as to enable the zinc electrode to perform stable reaction even during a long period of electric discharge by using chemically-synthesized manganese dioxide as the positive active material. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 1 consists of a cylindrical zinc can containing no mercury as a negative active material. A positive mixture 3 in which an aqueous zinc chloride solution is used as an electrolyte faces the negative electrode 1 with a separator 2 interposed; the separator 2 is prepared by coating a craft paper sheet with a pasty material principally composed of starch having a high liquid-retaining property. The positive mixture 3 is composed of 1.5pts.wt. chemically-synthesized manganese dioxide, 2.0pts.wt. acetylene black, 0.112pts.wt. zinc oxide, 2.6pts.wt. zinc chloride and 6.7pts.wt. water. Therefore, the electrolyte of the positive mixture 3 contains no corrosive sublimate entirely. |
