<p>PURPOSE:To effectively modify slag by a simple means by adding a modifying flux to the slag on the surface of molten steel in a molten metal receiving vessel and by refining the slag while adding a reducing agent after the beginning of heating with a burner. CONSTITUTION:Floating slag 3 on the surface of molten steel 2 poured into a ladle 1 is discharged by mechanical scraping, the ladle 1 is covered with a lid 9, and a modifying flux and fuel are blown from a heating burner 4 that opens into the ladle 1. After the modifying flux is blown by a prescribed amount, only heating is continued. Al dross as a reducing agent is then added after the lapse of about 5min after the beginning of the blowing of the modifying flux and the heating of slag. The amounts of FeO, MnO, etc. in the slag are reduced, the amount of inclusions in the steel is also reduced, and high purity steel can be manufactured by refining at a low cost in a short time.</p> |
