PURPOSE:To obtain a compact engine by placing separately the highest speed gear of speed change gears at a side of the part right under a change gear case and by making a clearance between an input shaft and a lower side wall of the gear case smaller than the outside diameter of the highest speed gear. CONSTITUTION:An engine for a vehicle is provided with a crank case 1, accommodating a crank shaft 6, a transmission case 10, and a cylinder block 2-1. Of gears G1 to G6 on an input 13 of a speed change gear mechanism 11, the highest speed gear G6, whose diameter is the largest, is placed separately at a side of the part right under a gear case 8. The clearance between the lower wall of the gear case 8 and the input shaft 13 is made smaller than the outer diameter of the highest speed gear G6. With this contrivance, the size of the engine can be minimized. |
