<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide area illuminating device capable of illuminating a region ranging from an area of a to-be-illuminated surface near a device to the furthermost point in an illumination direction with sufficient light quantity. <P>SOLUTION: The wide area illuminating device 100 includes an illuminating unit 25 that emits light on the to-be-illuminated surface S that is any one of a ceiling surface 11, a wall surface 13, and a floor of a building. The illuminating unit 25 has a light source array consisting of a plurality of light-emitting diodes at least arranged in a row, first reflection portions each of which is disposed on the light emission side of the light source array in correspondence to each of the light-emitting diodes and has a curved surface widening toward the to-be-illuminated surface S, and second reflection portions which are disposed on the light emission side of the first reflection portions along the direction of row of the light-emitting diodes and each of which has a tabular reflective surface that is disposed on one side perpendicular to the direction of row of the light-emitting diode to reflect light from the light-emitting diodes toward the light emission side.
