The present invention relates to a method and a device for storing and releasing cold to a working circuit. This device includes an enclosure 10 surrounded by a thermally insulating cladding 11 containing a cold-storing fluid 12, a heat exchanger 13 immersed in the cold-storing fluid and conveying a heat exchange fluid 14, a refrigerant fluid 16 injector 15 and an orifice 17 for suction of the refrigerant fluid 16 in the vapour state. The arrangement of the injector and the coldness of the fluids are such that there is formed inside the enclosure 10 a wet slush 21 of particles of the fluid 12 solidified beneath the free level 20 and a mass 22 of these particles disposed above the free level. The advantage of this system is that the refrigerant fluid 16 passes through the said slush 21 in order to be collected through the suction orifice 17. <IMAGE>
