A circuit which considerably reduces the connection and disconnection losses of controllable switches is specified for self-commutated four-quadrant power converters, which are mainly used to supply three-phase motors and direct current actuating drives. The energy stored in the fundamentally necessary disconnection discharge capacitors Ca1 and Ca2 and the connection discharge chokes L1 and L2 is transferred by the circuit without significant losses to two voltage sources Ur1 and Ur2, which are capable of negative feeding. Because of the short oscillation times in the circuit, clock frequencies of up to 20 kHz can be achieved. The circuit is particularly suitable for multiple-motor drives with bipolar transistors as electronic switches, since the voltage sources Ur1 and Ur2 can then be used in common for all branched pairs. <IMAGE>
