The invention relates to a hollow metal pole with an access opening which can be used as a lamppost. It consists of a trapezium made of sheet steel 1 folded so as to obtain at the top a regular hexagonal cross section 2 and at the bottom a tapered equilateral triangle 3. The access opening 5 is situated entirely on one of the long sides. It is fixed to the base plate 6 by gusset plates 7, fixed in the corners and bolts 8 with a seal 9 placed in between.
