The ignition coil 2 which is integrated with a spark plug connector 1 consists essentially of the core 3, an inner sleeve cylinder 4 (which consists of insulating material and has the secondary winding 5) and of an identical outer sleeve cylinder 6 having the primary winding 7, the intermediate spaces between these parts being filled with a potting compound which is electrically insulating and cures. The lower end of the core 3 projects beyond the secondary winding 5. At its lower end, the outer sleeve cylinder 6 covers the end 13 of the lower core end, by means of a closure base 14. The functional unit, which consists of the outer sleeve cylinder 6, the inner sleeve cylinder 4 and the core 3 as well as spark plug connector 1, is embedded in a sleeve body 16 which consists of elastic insulating material. <IMAGE>
