A method and a device implementing the method are used for processing image information in an image processor, in which only necessary image areas from the entered images are selectively accessed as basic image information, and stored separately in a partial image memory after compression. On retrieval, each item of basic image information which is stored in the partial image memory is arbitrarily identified via a keyboard, and can be independently read from the partial image memory, expanded and processed together. Using this design and form, a great volume of image information can be reduced for storage purposes. Also, effective use of the memory can be achieved. <IMAGE>
